Brewers 5-6 Cheltenham Town

A 94th minute strike from Michael Pook grabbed all three points for Cheltenham as they ran out 6-5 winners in an incredible game at the Pirelli. Burton had been cruising 2-0 at half time and although they continued to score in the second half Cheltenham pegged them back each time before incredibly turning the game around with almost the last kick of the game.

Burton were cruising at half time, leading 2-0 thanks to a Shaun Harrad brace. The Robins showed the kind of form their lowly league position belies with the Brewers dominating throughout the half.

It could have been more for Burton as Harrad and Steve Kabba both had further opportunities.

The Brewers named an unchanged starting eleven for the visit of Cheltenham Town. Aaron Webster returned to the bench in place of the suspended Keith Gilroy. Kevin Grocott also started on the bench in place of JamesKnowles.

Before the match the Pirelli crowd was entertained by a marching band to mark the Brewers involvement with the Football for Heroes Week.

Burton made a scorching start to the match and took the lead after 70 seconds, Paul Boertien's free kick was flicked on by the head of Steve Kabba. Shaun HARRAD collected with his back to goal and produced a trademark shot on the turn to fire the Brewers into the lead.

Burton kept up their early head of steam and could have made it two on ten minutes, John McGrath's delightful ball down the wing was chased and crossed by Harrad, Kabba was inches away from heading the Brewers into a 2-0 lead.

The Robins lost Josh Low to injury in the 17th minute. He was replaced at left back by Lee Ridley.

A defensive lapse from Cheltenham let in Harrad again on 23 minutes. His attempt to lob ball into the net was well saved by Scott Brown in the Robins goal. Cheltenham were threatening very little at this stage, with Russell Penn and John McGrath once again taking a firm grip of midfield.

Burton were awarded a penalty on 31 minutes after Harrad was tripped by Ridley. The ball looked to be running out of play when Harrad was brought down the linesman made no hesitation in flagging. HARRAD buried the penalty to take his league tally to15 for the season.

Kabba made a great break down the right a minute later, he squared the ball to Harrad who struck his chance of a first half hat trick wide.

Cheltenham continued to offer very little with Justin Richards stranded as the lone front man ahead of a five man midfield. Their best chance so far fell to Matt Thornill on 42 minutes but his shot was saved by Artur Krysiak.

Half time: Burton Albion 2 - 0 Cheltenham Town

Neither side made a change at the break. Steve Kabba blazed over the bar shortly after the restart.

Medy Elito then forced Krysiak's second superb save of the afternoon with a well struck low shot on the angle after 47 minutes. Cheltenham's best two chances coming either side of half time.

A horrendous error from Tom Parkes let in David Hutton to cross for Justin RICHARDS who grabbed a goal back for Cheltenham on 53 minutes. Parkes attempted to shepherd the ball out but his misjudgment allowed Hutton all the time in the world to pick his cross.

And the Robins equalised three minutes later, Medy ELITO smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area. Cheltenham a transformed side from the first half.

But the Brewers serged back into the lead on 58 minutes, Cleveland Taylor broke down the right and his low drive appeared to take a deflection off Michael Townsend on it's way past Brown. Paul Peschisolido brought on Romuald Boco in place of Jacques Maghoma.

Shaun Harrad then closed in on goal unchallenged after 62 minutes, his low strike from outside the area just went wide of the far post.

Russell Penn was having an oustanding game and on 70 minutes his driving run forward and inch perfect through ball to Harrad almost created another goal scoring opportunity for the Brewers.

Steve KABBA scored the Brewers fourth on 72 minutes. Shaun Harrad turned his man and crossed for Boco, the ball was intercepted by Aaron Lescott but the defender's header dropped for Kabba to slam into the net.

Kabba almost put the Brewers out of sight on 78 minutes. He charged down Scott Brown after an under hit back pass and just got his toe to the ball first but the ball struck the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick.

Cheltenham pulled another goal back on 84 minutes to make it 4-3. Michael POOK'sfreekick from the edge of the area found the bottom left corner of Krysiak's net.

But once again the Brewers hit back straight away, Steve KABBA guiding Harrad's low cross past Brown on 85 minutes to make it 5-3.

But it was 5-4 two minutes later, POOK's shot from long range deflected of Boertien and looped over Krysiak into the net.

And Justin RICHARDS grabbed an incredible equaliser on 90 minutes, he beat Krysiak to a long ball over the top and slotted underneath the 'keeper.

Michael POOK shocked Burton with a 20 yard volley deep into injury time to win the game 6-5 for Cheltenham.
