37-year-old retires from professional football

Burton Albion Football Club can confirm the retirement of 37-year-old midfielder Rory Delap.


The former Southampton and Stoke City midfielder joined Albion at the start of the 2013-14 season and went on to make seven appearances and scoring once.


Having started his career at Carlisle United Delap went on to make over 500 appearances during a 21-year career, representing seven clubs.

Delap also received international recognition, representing the Republic of Ireland on 11 occasions.


Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett paid tribute to the former Premier League player: “Rory has been a constant professional since he joined the club in the summer.


“His attitude and work ethic have been a credit to himself and the invaluable knowledge and experience that he has passed onto the rest of the players here at Burton Albion has been priceless."


He added: “He has had a fantastic career and we are honoured here at Burton that he has finished his career with us.”


On behalf of everyone at Burton Albion the club would like to wish Rory all the best with his future endeavours.
