Rowett praises winger after 1-0 win
Albion boss Gary Rowett praised the Brewers' resolve after he saw his side overcome a resolute Northampton Town side 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.
The 1-0 win is Burton's seventh of their Sky Bet League 2 campaign and Rowett believes the win against the league's lowest ranked side was well deserved.
"It's another 1-0 win and another clean sheet, particularly in the second-half we knew that Northampton would come give it a go," he told Brewers Player.
Despite over 20 attempts at goal it was defender Ian Sharps who scored the winner on 86 minutes, a powerful header from six yards direct from a corner.
Rowett admits the Brewers struggled to find space to utilise their attacking forward options.
"We've had 20 shots, not all of them were on target but we knew it would be very tight, the way Northampton lined up made it difficult to create any space and it was a real premium and we spoke to the players about it during half-time.
"I felt as if Northampton had four or five players that hadn't played 90 minutes too many times this season and we knew it was there as the game went on."
With Albion now recording seven 1-0 wins in the league and two in the cup manager Rowett is eager to see the Brewers secure a second goal to sure-up the result in future games.
"I think from the first minute in the second-half it become that little bit more open which is what we wanted and we had lots of good chances which perhaps on another day we might have got that second goal that we are always trying to get."
He added: "The important thing is we got the three points and that is a good day for me."
The manager also reserved praise for winger Jimmy Phillips who produced an eye-catching performance, with his saved shot leading to the corner from which Ian Sharps scored the winner.
"It was a fantastic performance from Jimmy (Phillips), he is a very difficult player to play against.
"When he is playing with that sort of confidence and that sort of ability which we know he has got," he explained.
"That is the thing with Jim sometimes he needs to believe in himself a bit more, he has got a great work-ethic and wonderful ability and I think he should do that more often.
He is a player that on the turn of the year will get lots of opportunities," added Rowett.
