JOHN MOUSINHO ON NEWPORT

23 August 2014

Brewers goalscorer John Mousinho spoke to Brewers Player after todays game:

On the game/result:

It was difficult and a battle today. The pitch was okay but it was a bit windy and there was a bit of a slope but you come away to places and they can be quite tough. They are a team who having lost the first few games of the season were well up for it. They were a better side than their league position suggests. We were fully expecting them to come at us and we probably let ourselves down a bit.

We dug in in what was a difficult game to get the point which is quite pleasing.

We wont be too ecstatic it about. If we start getting complacent and settling for draws we could be in a bit of bother but it is a sign of the squads development and where we want to go that we get into the dressing room a bit disappointed with ourselves and just a bit underwhelmed with how we started the game.

I think a lot of sides we be happy to come here and get a point this season but we wont be going away from home and settling for a point this season.

On an improved second half performance:

Although we didnt play vintage football in the second half we were more up for the challenge. I thought we defended quite well and didnt really concede many chances albeit we had a few set pieces to defend. We caught them on the break and that was what we were after doing. If we could have just converted those chances, Lucas' chance late on and those set pieces, we had a barrage at the end, if a flick goes in we go home with the three points. If we had just been a bit more clinical we wouldnt be too far off.

On his first Brewers goal:

I am really pleased with it. I have been trying to get into the box a bit more, especially this season the manager has encouraged it. It just popped up for me on my left foot. I am sure a lot of people will be texting me now telling me I only use that one for standing on but in the context of the game it was more important and for our season to have a tough first half and then come back and get an equaliser was quite pleasing.

I dont set goal targets because if you hit it then its easy to think that you've done it and thats it. I will just try to score as many as possible. Some games we are going to have to dig in and fill the middle of the park and others we will have more freedom to get forward. Ironically that was one of the games where we have probably been less attacking from midfield.
