BREWERS AWARDED LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

11 September 2014

Albion win weekly accolade afte Pompey win

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the newly sponsored and longstanding LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Burton Albion following their excellent 2-0 home win against Portsmouth in Sky Bet

League 2 on Sunday 7th September 2014, a result that gives them a two point lead at the top of the table and continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Burton manager Gary Rowett will receive a new specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

The Brewers were ahead within two minutes when Adam McGurk touched in Stuart Beavon's cross-shot.

Jed Wallace volleyed wide a rare first-half chance for Pompey and home keeper John McLaughlin had to make a double save from Alex Wynter after the break.

But Lucas Akins' superb turn and shot on 55 minutes eased Burton to a fifth successive home win this season.

Gary Rowett was naturally delighted; "It was an excellent all round performance. I think lots of aspects of our game were very, very good against a very good Portsmouth side.

"Our attacking was fantastic at times. We were very disciplined with our team shape and when we do that we're a really difficult team to break down and play against.”
