PHIL EDWARDS ON LAST NIGHT'S PERFORMANCE

25 September 2014

Phil Edwards talks after last night's defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion

On Last Night’s Performance And Trying To Improve:

“I think it was disappointing, especially in the first half where we didn’t get close enough to them.

“Second half we put them under a bit more pressure. But when we got on top and they scored that killer third goal that was game over.

“We ultimately wanted to come out and give a good account of ourselves and obviously win the game, but the league is the main priority.

“We wanted to go as far as we could and wanted a big team. But we haven’t got that now, so we’ll concentrate on Cheltenham this Saturday and get back to winning ways.

“All the games are tough in League Two and it doesn’t matter who you play. You get physical, you get teams like Bury, who pass it, so we’ve got to work hard on the training ground Friday and turn around the little dip in form we’re having at the minute.

“We haven’t lost at home yet, so hopefully we can take that. We’ve lost two away, but we’re back at our ground now and we’ve got to make it a fortress.”

On The Younger Players Getting Their Chance:

“At the minute we’ve got a few injuries, so it was a good opportunity for them to show the gaffer what they can do and I think a few of them blossomed.”

On His Own Fitness:

“I feel fine, I’ve had a few kicks today, but I’ll battle through it.

“I think the gaffer gave me breather against Wimbledon and Bury as the games were gone and to give Liam (Slade) the chance to see what he can do.

“I feel pressure everyday I come to training as I’ve got to perform or otherwise I wouldn’t get picked on the Saturday.”
