IF you were to rewind a whole year you’d see Nigel Clough has been appointed as the manager of Burton Albion for the second time in his managerial career.
The former Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Manchester City player was appointed as Burton Albion manager in 1998 where he enjoyed ten years in charge. During his first stint as boss, he guided Burton to promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division and the Conference Premier.In January 2006, Burton, then in the Conference, held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw in the third round of the FA Cup. The United team featured Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Louis Saha, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney introduced as second-half substitutes.
Clough moved to manager Derby County in 2009 but returned to Burton Albion a year ago today, after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joined Queens Park Rangers. The former England striker guided Burton Albion to the Sky Bet Championship after finishing second in League One, the highest ever league finish in Albion’s history.
The Brewers boss currently has a win percentage of 38.8% (second spell) having won 18 of his 47 games in charge of the Brewers. His most notable wins this season have come against his former sides in Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday.
