AKINS ON CHAMPIONSHIP DIFFERENCE

5 January 2017

LUCAS Akins has spoken of the difference in the standard of play in the Championship compared to League One.

He also feels that Albion’s performances in the Sky Bet Championship haven’t reflected on the results so far.

He said: “This season has shown how much of a tough league it is, we’ve been indifferent in form. That’s to be expected though in a new league with a few new players. We are trying to learn as quick as possible the league is very unforgiving when you make a mistake. We all know that happens in football, we’ve been in a fair few games where we’ve played well and come away with nothing.

“The Championship is ruthless, we need to be a bit more streetwise in the last 22 games and hopefully that will see us go up the table. We know we continue to create chances so hopefully more goals will come.

“Defender in this league are much quicker and more intelligent, they give you less time and don’t make too many mistakes.”

Akins also recognised the need for extra quality in the final third from himself: “I am getting a lot more chances and I need to put more of them away. I know I need to at least hit the target and work the goalkeeper. In this league, it comes down to quality in the final-third and I always back myself when I get the chance to score.”
