AKINS PRAISES ‘ROLE MODEL’ DYER AND SQUAD'S FITNESS

17 November 2016

LUCAS Akins believes that the Burton Albion players are learning from Lloyd Dyer’s experience, and believes that the side’s good fitness has been key so far this season.

Dyer, 34, has been promoted from the second tier with West Bromwich Albion, Leicester and Watford during his career and also played a part in Burnley’s promotion campaign last season. He has made a good start to his life at the Pirelli Stadium, scoring three times and creating two more goals in his 16 appearances so far this season.

Akins, who has mostly partnered the former Watford winger in the wing-back positions this season, says that he is enjoying learning from Dyer’s experience and that the who club can benefit from it.

“Lloyd, on the other side, I think has been fantastic is a great role-model to us because he has managed to get out of the division three times prior to this,” Akins said.

“Obviously, to see how he works and puts in effort is just great.”

Akins also praised the high energy levels of the Burton team; something that the winger believes will give the side an advantage later on in the season.

“One of our main attributes is our fitness; it is great that we get to show that, even though we come off tired.

“It is worth it if we get the right result and even if you don’t you know that if you keep putting in the work then you will eventually get those results.”

Dyer and Akins are both expected to start against Reading on Saturday as the Brewers hope to hand the fourth-placed Royals just their second home defeat of the season.
