WITH work now well under way on a new 3G football pitch at the Pirelli Stadium, the name of the facility has now been revealed.
Burton Albion Community Football Centre will open in the autumn providing all-weather football opportunities for a wide range of organisations.
The £1 million project has received nearly £850,000 of funding from The Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund.
The shortfall is being provided through local businesses and partners including East Staffordshire Borough Council through its Local Neighbourhood Development Fund.
Council leader Richard Grosvenor and deputy leader for cultural services Colin Whittaker came along to the home of Burton Albion to see for themselves the progress being made.
Councillor Grosvenor said: "I can already see that it will be a good facility for the community. I’m looking forward to coming to see it when it is finished. As a council we have invested in our sporting facilities and we recognise how important they are and Burton Albion has always been a good community club.”
Burton Albion Community Trust has secured donations from Trent and Dove, The Consolidated Charity and a string of local businesses.
The facility will not only enable BACT to greatly expand its own programme but also see many other sports organisations in the town have access to a new purpose-built site.
BACT chairman John Jackson said: “A strategic need for a facility of this kind was identified in East Staffordshire and now I’m delighted to see it coming together. BACT has worked long and hard to bring this to fruition but couldn’t have done it without the support of many organisations including ESBC, who we were delighted to welcome so they could see for themselves the progress being made.”
