BREWERS CLASH IS ROYALS' REMEMBERANCE GAME

18 November 2016

BURTON Albion travel to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading tomorrow, and there will be a special remembrance ceremony before kick-off.

Reading’s last home game was against Nottingham Forest at the end of October, an away trip to Wigan Athletic before the international break means that the Royals’ first opportunity to commemorate Remembrance Day is against the Brewers.

91-year-old Second World War veteran Charlie Miller, a life-long Reading fan, will lay a wreath before kick off in remembrance of those lost, as part of the EFL Remembers campaign. A bugler will play the Last Post before supporters, officials and players observe a minute’s silence.

Miller was awarded with the Legion d'honneur by the French government earlier this year, its highest distinction, for his naval service throughout the war.

The former Navy man started his training at HMS Collingward, before serving on HMS Emperor between February 1944 and the end of the war.

He was based on the ship which was in the English Channel during the crucial D-Day landings supporting ground troops trying to take beaches along the German occupied Normandy coastline.
