MANAGER'S VERDICT - EXETER

22 July 2016

NIGEL Clough was disappointed to lose at Exeter but pleased with the work out as his team moves forward to the Championship season.

He said: "It's the first time we have conceded in pre-season but we were a little bit below par in too many areas tonight."

Clough also thought his players were a little bit "leggy".

He said: "We have had a few days training down south and it has been very warm weather. We also had 30 minutes training this morning which we normally wouldn't do during the season for an evening game.

"In pre-season you get these ups and downs physically as you search for peak fitness going into the start of the season."

Clough thought Exeter deserved their goal.

"It was a good goal, the lad turned and swivelled and just hit it in the top corner.

"Exeter are a good team, which is why we have come down here to play them. They have given us a good work out."
