BURTON Albion Academy is dedicated to producing the next generation of Brewers stars and is inviting you to support that ambition.
Academy Manager Dan Robinson has now been in post for six months and is excited by the future and the launch of the One of Our Own project that will help nurture future Burton Albion first team players.
He said: “I was very impressed with where the Academy was when I first came here having only been established six years. Now I’m excited to drive that forward for the 2017/18 season and beyond.
“We have started implementing changes to further our ambitions. We are in a good position, with good players coming through of all ages and we have a philosophy that if they are good enough they are old enough, so they know they will get opportunities.
“Our vision is supported by the first team manager Nigel Clough, who gives the Academy the responsibility of the reserve games, providing that pathway to the first team squad.
“We have recruited well and have full time staff of nine in the Academy.
“To enable us to continue to grow we are looking to offer partnerships that will help us with our vision.”
The One of Our Own plan is to invite businesses and organisations to partner with the Academy, to benefit from the exposure and the brand of Burton Albion and to help produce players to follow in the footsteps of Matty Palmer who has graduated from the Academy to make 150 first team appearances.
Dan added: “For the Academy to be only six years old and to have already produced players like Matty, Ben Fox and Marcus Harness, who have all played in the first team, just shows what can be achieved.
“Our vision is to develop local, well-rounded young players and to work closely with Burton Albion Community Trust, and the first team so we are all striving to further enhance the reputation of Burton as a town and the football club that is at the heart of our community.
“The exciting thing for us now is what we can achieve over the next three years.”
