CLOUGH AIMS TO ADD TO HIS SQUAD THIS WEEK

2 January 2017

NIGEL Clough is looking to add at least one more new signing to his squad before the week is out.

The Albion boss said: “We are looking to bring someone in before the weekend and we are waiting on two more answers for loans and looking to get the green light on those.”

But midfielder Hamza Choudhury’s loan deal has ended - although Will Miller may stay at the Pirelli Stadium.

Clough said: “Leicester have called Hamza back and we are waiting to talk to Spurs but it will be up to Will what he wants to do.

“We said we won’t take more than five loans but for Will we will leave it open. If he wants to be that sixth loan he can be because he’s brilliant to have around and because the chances of having all five loans fit is slim. So if he wants to be around a first team with a good chance of being involved we have left it with him and Spurs. He’s a great lad to have around and he’s improving and getting  acclimatised to the physical aspects of the Championship as well.”

Clough believes he needs to add to his squad in order to preserve Albion’s Championship status.

He said: “We haven’t got enough Championship experience. We did our best in the summer to rectify that and we are going to try to do our best in January to further that and be more competitive than we are.

“We are not quite good enough at the moment. We have known for the last six months since we got promoted that we needed Championship experience. You want to keep the spirit and give the lads a chance but now everyone has had a chance and we are fourth from bottom of the league so we will do everything we can, as we did in the summer, to get Championship players in.

“Injuries dictate as well and resources and the lads will keep giving everything but you have to do more than that in the Championship.”
