CLOUGH LOOKS TO OFFER IRVINE NEW CONTRACT

9 January 2017

NIGEL Clough says there has been no transfer window interest in Jackson Irvine and he hopes the midfielder will sign a new contract.

The Australian international has made a major impact for the Brewers after arriving in the summer from Scotland and is the Brewers most potent goal threat in his debut Championship season.

His eight goals and energetic performances have fuelled speculation that he may become a January transfer target, however Clough said that Albion had not received any interest.

"We have had no calls or anything," he said. "We will do everything we can to keep him anyway. Players move all the time against clubs wishes but Jackson is the sort of lad that, having given him the opportunity in the summer, he will see it through and want to stay with us and try and keep us in the league.

"He has good representatives and they are not actively seeking things at the moment and we are in the process of trying to offer him a new deal as well."

Clough also hopes to add to the three players he has already brought in during the transfer window.

He said: "We hope to get another couple of players in this week. We have put offers in for them and we are waiting to hear. The FA Cup is now done and everything is focussed on 3pm next Saturday and Wigan."
