CLOUGH SHOULD BE MANAGER OF THE YEAR SAYS BYWATER

1 May 2017

STEPHEN Bywater says that Nigel Clough should be Manager of the Year after keeping the Brewers in the Championship.

The goalkeeper says: “Without a doubt. He has been magnificent. To do what he has done with the resources is unbelievable. It exceeds anything he has ever done and that’s down to the Gaffer and his team and the chairman and everyone at the club.

"What Leicester did last season was big but I think the Gaffer's beyond that if I'm honest with the gulf in finances and everything like that - it's massive."

The Brewers confirmed their Championship status with a 1-1 draw at Barnsley on Saturday and can now relax going into the final home game against Reading on Sunday while other clubs sweat it out.

Bywater has played a crucial part  in the last three games after coming on to replace the injured Jon McLaughlin at Birmingham on Easter Monday.

McLaughlin faces an operation on his arm and a couple of months on the sidelines.

Bywater says: “I’m gutted for Jon that he has not been able to play because he’s a nice guy and we get on well but I keep myself fit as I have to be ready to help the lads out. And that’s what we do – stay fit, stay ready to give everything for the club.

"The job is done now to stay in this league and we can kick on. We have the manager and the chairman and I'm sure we can add to squad and it will be a good journey next year as well."
