CLOUGH WARY OF BLACKBURN AFTER MANAGERIAL UPHEAVAL

23 February 2017

NIGEL Clough is hoping his Brewers team can complete a busy week with more points but is wary of Blackburn Rovers.

Albion beat Norwich on Saturday and drew at Derby on Tuesday but the Albion boss has stated that the visit of relegation-threatened Blackburn tomorrow (7.45pm) is the most important of the three fixtures.

He is also wary of the visitors getting a boost by changing managers this week with Tony Mowbray replacing Owen Coyle.

Clough said: “The timing was very surprising as they have picked up a bit recently and it was one of their best performances of the season against Manchester United in the FA Cup, where they pushed them all the way.

“With a new manager watching that often makes the players try 10 per cent harder.

“The squad on paper is very strong. Unfortunately, they have been on the slide for a season or two and a couple of managers have tried to arrest that. I was never sure why they got rid of Gary Bowyer, as they were doing quite well under him. He knew the club and had come up through the Academy.

“But they are struggling this season and we have to take advantage of that.”
