FORMATION WILL DEPEND ON OPPOSITION SAYS CLOUGH

28 November 2016

A NEW formation for the Brewers paid dividends at Preston with a well-deserved point but Nigel Clough may not stick with it when Albion face Rotherham on Saturday.

The Brewers boss said: “It was more psychological than tactical really. Having not won on the road we decided we should change something for the lads. It gave us a little break from the three at the back away from home – we might go back to it next week as it has worked very well at home.

“It has to be game-by-game depending on the opposition and the personnel we have available.

“Jackson Irvine played well just off the striker and it helps when you have someone like Chris O’Grady up there battling away. A lot of the things Jackson got were coming off Chris.

“Damien McCrory has come in at full back and has done well as well. It’s a lot to ask coming in a third of the way through the season."

Clough also praised John Mousinho for playing with a mask after breaking his nose in training last week.

“We were tempted to leave him out due to the broken nose and the mask takes some getting used to but he’s our captain coming back to his old club and we thought he would relish the opportunity.”

Overall Clough was pleased with the point and performance at Preston.

He said: “We are 18 games in now and we feel we have had one off day. How we haven’t had a victory away from home we are not quite sure but as long as we keep playing like that we will be fine.”
