GOOD TO START TOUGH WEEK WITH A POINT SAYS CLOUGH

17 October 2016

BREWERS manager Nigel Clough says it was important to start a “tough week” with a well-earned point.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw at Wigan the Brewers boss said: “We got four points before the international break, we have another run of games now before the next international break and we have started it off with a draw away from home.

"It’s a tough week for us with Wigan away, Ipswich away and Birmingham at home. So it’s nice to start it off with a draw that adds to a little three-game unbeaten run we are on now.

“That’s one goal conceded in the last three and when we get our defensive unit out there we are tough to break down.

“It was the first time for about 18 months that everybody has been fit so we had a full squad to choose from, which is nice.”

Clough’s only concerns in team selection at Wigan was the tiredness factor for Jackson Irvine and Jamie Ward after international duty with Australia and Northern Ireland respectively.

He said: “Jackson did remarkably well to get through 90 minutes after getting off a plane from Australia on Thursday. He wasn’t his usual completely dynamic self but he was good enough.

“Jamie couldn’t start as he had just come back off two games with Northern Ireland.

“But it’s nice to have them all available.”
