IRVINE AND BRAYFORD'S REACTION TO WINNING AWARDS

3 May 2017

ALBION’s top goal scorer Jackson Irvine picked up three awards at last night’s end of season presentation, whilst John Brayford came close to winning the player of the season trophy.

Jackson Irvine’s first season in England has proved to be a successful campaign, netting ten goals from midfield helping Burton Albion to a second season in the Sky Bet Championship.

“I am so unbelievably honoured and pleased to be given the three awards,” said Irvine. “To be held in such high regard by players and fans is so overwhelming, I got quite emotional up there on the stage.

“When you see your season played out in front of you you see what you’ve been through together. To be given the individual plaudits is pleasing but you could see how much it meant to everybody involved. I couldn’t be more delighted.”

The Albion supporters voted for the player of the season, and the votes were close but John Brayford, who joined on loan from Sheffield United at the start of the season, came second to scoop the runner-up player of the season.

He said: “It’s really appreciative to see me as an integral part of the squad but there’s numerous names that could have gone on that award and every single one would have been a deserved name.

“It’s nice that they recognise that sort of thing but I recognise what the team put in during the season. People are paid to score goals and people are paid to keep the ball put of the net and thats my job and duty at the end of the day.”
