JANUARY SIGNINGS ARE PAYING DIVIDENDS FOR CLOUGH

20 February 2017

NIGEL Clough believes the signings he has brought to the club in the January transfer window will play a big part in the Brewers survival fight.

In Saturday's 2-1 victory over Norwich, on loan Fulham duo Lasse Vigen Christensen and Cauley Woodrow combined for the opener with Woodrow turning provider for Burnley loanee Michael Kightly to score for the winner.

Clough said: "Cauley has got himself a couple of goals now - important ones. Michael has got three so they are playing their part and that's what we are going to need between now and the end of the season. But that's true for everyone - whether it's five minutes or five games they are all going to be needed.

"We have to be a little bit cuter than most clubs with our recruitment as we haven't got millions to spend. We have to make sure everyone who comes in contributes and offers the best value for money for our resources. Both transfer windows we have done that."

Clough was delighted with the hard work his team put in to earn the three points against Norwich.

He said: "It was that sort of performance that will determine whether we stay up or not. It will be about desire and grinding out results. And the atmosphere certainly helped us - the crowd knew with ten minutes to go that we would be under the cosh and they got behind us. I have said many times that it makes a huge difference."
