KIGHTLY DELIGHTED WITH GOAL ON BREWERS DEBUT

6 February 2017

DEADLINE day signing Michael Kightly was pleased with his goalscoring start to life at the Pirelli Stadium.

Kightly, 31, scored Burton Albion’s first goal at home in 2017 with his second-half equaliser against former club Wolves. The Brewers went on to win the game thanks to a stoppage time goal from fellow loanee Cauley Woodrow.

The former Watford and Stoke City winger was named man of the match in the win and admitted that he was happy to have made a good start, and is looking forward to helping the Brewers in the fight to stay in the Championship.

“It’s a nice one - the main thing was that we got three points. Obviously points are vital at the minute and it is a great win for us but on a personal note, it could not have gone any better.

“It was tough as I haven’t played too many games this season. My fitness isn’t as good as it can be and I hope to build on that and the only way that I can build on that is getting minutes on the pitch.

“I haven’t missed a day’s training in three years, but I’ve not played any football for the best part of a year really. I have just been in and out, so I am looking forward to getting my head down and hopefully staying in the team here.”

Kightly and the rest of the squad now turn their attention to a tough away trip to second-placed Brighton and Hove Albion next weekend. The Brewers go into the game with two wins in their last three away league matches, with a victory potentially taking them to 19th in the table.
