LAST NIGHT'S VICTORY WAS 'MASSIVE' SAYS THE KEEPER

30 December 2016

BURTON Albion recorded their first ever away victory in the Sky Bet Championship last night in a 2-1 win over Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Nigel Clough’s men have come close on countless occasions this season to recording an away win, but they haven’t been able to turn performances into results.

Last night’s victory was ‘massive’ according to Jon McLaughlin.

He said: “I think it’s massive in the context of the season, more for the fact that it’s our first away win which everyone knew was starting to hang over our heads and loom over us because we can’t keep saying that we’re playing well or how unlucky you’ve been so it was massive although you’re playing bottom of the league they have picked up under their knew manager.

“You could see tonight it was one of our tougher games, it was a real battle for 90 minutes.”

Two quick-fire goals from the Albion gave them a two-goal lead just after 40 minutes, although the Millers did strike back with a goal just before half time.

“Little bits of quality got us the goals and we’ve done really well to see out the game, get the victory and take the points,” said McLaughlin. “Again we were probably unlucky for the goal we’ve conceded to not get the clean sheet that’s something we’re still working really hard on, that will make us a much best side especially coming away from home if we can keep it tight at the back.

“You’ve seen the quality all year, especially Jackson (Irvine) who’s got quality in the air, it was a brilliant ball in from Bray (Brayford) and for Chris (O’Grady) to get his goal as well that’s massive, it’s a real good night all round for us.”
