BURTON Albion recorded their first ever away victory in the Sky Bet Championship last night in a 2-1 win over Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Nigel Cloughâs men have come close on countless occasions this season to recording an away win, but they havenât been able to turn performances into results.Last nightâs victory was âmassiveâ according to Jon McLaughlin.
He said: âI think itâs massive in the context of the season, more for the fact that itâs our first away win which everyone knew was starting to hang over our heads and loom over us because we canât keep saying that weâre playing well or how unlucky youâve been so it was massive although youâre playing bottom of the league they have picked up under their knew manager.
âYou could see tonight it was one of our tougher games, it was a real battle for 90 minutes.â
Two quick-fire goals from the Albion gave them a two-goal lead just after 40 minutes, although the Millers did strike back with a goal just before half time.
âLittle bits of quality got us the goals and weâve done really well to see out the game, get the victory and take the points,â said McLaughlin. âAgain we were probably unlucky for the goal weâve conceded to not get the clean sheet thatâs something weâre still working really hard on, that will make us a much best side especially coming away from home if we can keep it tight at the back.
âYouâve seen the quality all year, especially Jackson (Irvine) whoâs got quality in the air, it was a brilliant ball in from Bray (Brayford) and for Chris (OâGrady) to get his goal as well thatâs massive, itâs a real good night all round for us.â
