LUKE MURPHY'S FIRST INTERVIEW

6 January 2017

NEW signing Luke Murphy has joined on a season-long loan from fellow Championship side Leeds United, and the midfield man is looking forward to helping his new team.

Luke has played one game for Leeds this season despite playing nearly every game for the Yorkshire club last season, but now the 27-year-old just wants to help Burton Albion finish the season in good stead.

He said: “As soon as I found out there was a chance of coming here I really wanted to make it happen.

“It’s a very ambitious club and they’ve proved that in the last few years with the promotions. With the manager that’s here I’ve always wanted to try and play for him and hopefully I can help the team do well and finish the season good.

“This season has been very frustrating for me personally, I wasn’t in the plans at Leeds and that’s fine, that’s how football works but as I said as soon as the opportunity came to come here I wanted to take it with both hands and help them finish as high as possible in this league.

“The club itself and the manager that’s here and also the players that are here I felt that it was a perfect fit for me at this time in my career.”

Murphy has played 111 times for Leeds, with most of his appearances coming in the Sky Bet Championship, so he will be looking to share his knowledge with the younger players in the team.

“I like to think that I will bring a lot of experience to the side,” said Murphy. “I’ve been at Leeds for three years now so I’ve seen a lot of things and hopefully I can give some advice so some of the younger lads and help with the results on the pitch.

“With the players and the manager that’s here now I feel that it is possible to not only stay in this league but push up as high as we can.”

Luke will be eligible to play tomorrow against Watford in the Emirates FA Cup at Vicarage Road, and says he will be raring to go should he be selected.

“If selected I will be raring to go and I’m really looking forward to making my first start for Burton.”
