MANAGER'S VERDICT - LIVERPOOL

23 August 2016

NIGEL Clough says that his players will quickly draw a line under the EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool and look ahead to Derby County on Friday.

The Burton Albion boss said: "You saw the gulf in quality tonight. We are just trying to get used to the Championship for the first time, so to play a team challenging for the Premiership title was too much for us - but we kept going and we are not too down about the result.

"No disrespect to the competition or anybody but the result doesn't matter tonight, Friday night does.

"The team they put out could pretty much turn it on at will - the pace, the power, the movement, everything about the Premier League was there tonight and not the bottom of the Premier League but a team challenging right at the top. They brought on £50 million worth of subs - that's just beyond us.

"We will come back in the morning. I have told the lads to get it straight out of their minds and we have 72 hours now before we take on Derby.

"The money's in the bank, we have played Liverpool and who knows when we might not get a chance to play them again."
