MANAGER'S VERDICT - WIGAN

15 October 2016

NIGEL Clough was pleased with the clean sheet after the 0-0 draw at Wigan but felt his side could have won it in the first half

The Brewers boss said: "The first half was where we had our opportunity to win the game but we managed to weather a little bit of a storm in the second half and kept a clean sheet.

"That's the second clean sheet on the spin which is pleasing and we controlled the game in the first half. We knew Wigan would improve and have a spell in the game, which they did, and when they have the quality they have on the bench to bring on late in the game they can cause you problems.

"What we have to realise is that if it's the first five or ten minutes in a game when you have your spell you need to do more to get a goal. There were plenty of good situations that didn't result in a clear cut chance and that's what we have to improve upon.

"We might have got a late winner with Tom Naylor's header but at that point you want to make sure you keep the clean sheet and come away with a point."
