MARVIN HAPPY TO BE STRAIGHT INTO ACTION

3 January 2017

MARVIN Sordell made his Burton Albion debut against Preston and is now looking forward to playing more with his new teammates.

Sordell, 25, replaced Chris O’Grady at half-time during the Brewers’ 1-0 defeat, little over 24 hours after he had completed his transfer from Coventry City. The former Team GB man admitted that his debut was not perfect, but feels that he is a good fit for Nigel Clough’s side.

“I thought I did okay today. I think there were a few sloppy passes and touches but getting to know everyone’s game, what people like and what people dislike, for example, building relationships on the pitch is very important, so as I get to know everybody better it will be easier to do things.

“I am a striker, so playing attacking football is what I like, getting on the ball a lot and hopefully getting a lot of shots, creating opportunities for other people as well, that is what I am paid to do.”

Sordell’s appearance was his first in the second tier since August 2015, with the striker, capped 15 times by the England under 21s, since playing in League One with Colchester United and Coventry.
