MATCH REPORT - LYE TOWN v BREWERS

25 October 2016

BURTON Albion defeated Midland Premier League side Lye Town 2-0, thanks to goals from Stuart Beavon and Joe Sbarra in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

First-team players Stuart Beavon, Damien McCory, Tom Flanagan, Callum Reilly, Ben Fox and Marcus Harness all started to gain some much needed match fitness.

It was Beavon who first tested the opposing keeper Dean Coleman with a volley in the first minute but the Lye keeper saved well.

The next chance came through Ryan Delaney who’s volley went wide after a good cross from Marcus Harness.

The Brewers should have gone in front through Callum Reilly who had two one-on-ones’ with Lye’s keeper Coleman again saving well both times.

They finally took the lead before half-time when a Stuart Beavon header from the edge of the box completely surprised everyone as it looped in after a lovely ball from Ben Fox on the left hand side.

Burton started the second half as they began the first, on the front foot. Marcus Harness fired wide after Beavon put him through on the left hand side and Beavon then tested Coleman with an effort on the edge of the box.

Beavon and Reilly continued to test the Lye goal with both seeing shots from the edge of the box go wide of the left side post.

Midfielder Joe Sbarra doubled the Brewers lead in the 68th minute after cutting in from the left hand side, he beat two men and then hit a stunning effort from the edge of the box into the bottom-right corner of the Lye goal.

Lye rarely threatened the Albion goal with young Harry Campbell only having to make one notable save from striker Ben Hadley.

The Brewers will have to wait to see who they face in the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
