MCLAUGHLIN SAYS BREWERS HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR IN CHAMPIONSHIP

13 October 2016

JON McLaughlin says that he has seen nothing to fear in the Championship this season.

The Brewers keeper believes the team has adapted well to the new level, despite conceding a few more goals than he has been used to in the last couple of years.

He said: “We aren’t commanding as much of the ball possession wise as we have done the last few years. We have to accept that a lot of teams, especially away from home, will have the majority of the ball.

“There are a lot of quality players and you know what they can do against you. But it’s not been a ridiculous change from last year in League One.

“We have had nothing to fear and we have been able to go toe-to-toe with teams. We haven’t been silly in how we have approached games.

“It has been nice to see the step up in class but it’s certainly not been beyond us and it’s nice to be in there testing ourselves and doing well against these teams.

“As a defensive unit we have not had as many clean sheets as we have been used to. We always knew it would be that way due to the quality teams have got and the way they can punish you if you give them one or two opportunities.

“It’s also a new system and a change in personnel and with injuries and suspensions we have had a less settled defence. For two years it was pretty much untouched but the lads have all done pretty well and as unit we are quite pleased with how we have performed.”
