NIGEL CLOUGH'S BRIGHTON REACTION

11 February 2017

NIGEL Clough said that Brighton's quality at both ends of the pitch showed in the 4-1 result today.

The Brewers boss said: "We started playing when we were 3-0 down. The two goals in 15 minutes after half-time killed us off. We said kept it tight at 1-0 and all of a sudden it was 3-0.

"For the 15-20 minutes after that I thought we played extremely well and got the goal back and could have had another one easily and you never know from there. But the gulf in the quality showed at times today - in both penalty areas.

"We are disappointed in the goals we conceded. The fourth was a cracking cross and header and there is not too much you can do about that but we are disappointed with the others.

"We spoke this week about being brave and getting on the ball but when we did we gave it away - that was the problem. We were nowhere near as good today on the ball as we usually are and that was to a man. You can't afford to give possession away to most teams in this league - let alone top of the league Brighton..

"Nobody expects us to come here and get anything but we told the players to come here and give it a go and we didn't quite manage to do that. The only good thing is that at 3-0 you can collapse and be on the end of a 6-0 but we didn't, we rallied and showed some spirit."

"We also had a good shout for a penalty on Lucas Akins in the first half. We might get one of those some day."
