NO CELEBRATIONS YET FOR BREWERS SAYS CLOUGH

24 April 2017

NIGEL Clough says that he and the Burton Albion players aren't celebrating anything yet, despite being on the brink of Championship survival.

With Blackburn failing to win on Saturday and Birmingham losing yesterday, Albion look odds on favourites to be in the Championship again next season but technically still need a point.

Clough said: "It would take a freakish set of results but unfortunately they do happen occasionally so we won't celebrate just yet but will try and get a point at Barnsley on Saturday.

"Kyle McFadzean said in the dressing room after the Leeds game 'let's go and win next week' and that's the challenge now.

"We were hoping we would celebrate after the Leeds game but to get to 51 points with two games to go means we are only nearly there and we have to see it over the line next week."

Clough said the 2-1 win over Leeds 'speaks volumes for the character of the players'.

He also revealed that before the game he had urged Michael Kightly to be the match winner.

"I said to him before the game, 'You are going to come on and win it for us today' and he got the all important second goal."
