NO COMPLACENCY FOR BREWERS SAYS CLOUGH

26 April 2017

NIGEL Clough says there will be no complacency when the Brewers travel to Barnsley on Saturday.

Albion need a point to make Championship football next season 100 per cent secure.

Clough says: “All the lads are focussed on getting the result we need. For the first time, it’s not about watching our phones and checking other games as we know that if we do the business that’s it. A clean sheet at Barnsley and we are safe.

“There are eight or nine results that need to go against us but it’s not a question of thinking it’s done at all. We have to go to Barnsley and get a result.”

Barnsley came up from League One with the Brewers last season and have performed better than most people expected.

“It’s two clubs over-achieving,” says Clough. “They have had an incredible season and were safe a few weeks ago. They have had a nice three or four weeks compared with us not worrying or fretting. It does give them that comfort when you know you are safe.

“Of the three teams that came up last season everyone thought Wigan would do the best and ourselves and Barnsley would be struggling.

“So it won’t be easy there but it’s not about Barnsley, it’s totally about us.”

Albion will be without Jon McLaughlin who had an operation on his arm on Monday but Cauley Woodrow could be back.

“He’s done a little bit of light training this week," says Clough. "It’s more of a kick on his calf than a strain so we are hoping he will be available. Jon is out after his operation but hopefully everyone else will be OK.”
