SAM ROSE PRAISES YOUNG SBARRA

11 October 2016

Sam Rose has heaped praise on in-form youth prospect Joe Sbarra, saying that his commitment and desire have been key to his success this season.

Sbarra has been in fantastic form for the under 18s this season, scoring three in his last two, with two goals in his most recent game against Grimsby Town, while he also scored a hat trick for the development squad against Bradford City something that caught the attention of first team manager Nigel Clough, who included Sbarra amongst his substitutes for the Championship defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Rose believes that Sbarra’s success is down to the player’s strong work ethic and desire, and sees a bright future for the forward.

“You can’t question Joe’s commitment; he is always going to do his very best whether he is playing with under 16s or the first team.

“He is a very good player, he scored two good goals (against Grimsby), he could have scored a few more, he got on the end of a few cut-backs and crosses into the box and probably could have put more away.

“It is very encouraging, first to see him rewarded with a squad number, be around the first team squad and train with the first team, it is all down to him and his attitude and also his ability and talent as a footballer.”

Sam Rose added: “The standards across the whole group have been very encouraging, in terms of individual performances and team results. The group will continue to show a professional, hard working attitude towards the work we are doing in training as this will be reflect in their output in games.

“The fact that one of the group has been involved with the first team sends a message to a number of other second years in the group that if they stay focussed on becoming a better footballer between now and the end of the season, if they show an excellent attitude and application towards their development both on and off the pitch and if they take their opportunities to make an impression, then they can achieve a positive outcome with the u18s.”

Sbarra’s and the under 18s squad’s next test is hosting Scunthorpe in the Youth Alliance, where The Brewers will be hoping to continue their record as the division’s top scorers.
