"THIS MOMENT WAS ALWAYS THE GOAL"

21 September 2016

18-year-old Ben Fox made his league debut on Saturday in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

The midfielder, who came through the Burton Albion academy, was a 77th minute substitute for Hamza Choudhury.

Fox had already made his professional debut against his boyhood team Liverpool in the EFL Cup last month but was handed his league debut on Saturday.

He said: “The standard was tough - they're obviously a good side, Brighton, and will be up there fighting for promotion.

“Everyone worked really hard and it's gutting they were able to nick it at the end.

“We know that every point matters and we've got to find for everyone.

“When they're taken away from you so cruelly like that it hurts. But we'll go away, go again and come back next week.”

Nigel Clough has already received praise for his youth policy at the Pirelli Stadium, a policy in which Ben Fox is grateful for:

“I’ve played against Liverpool too and it's fantastic. I'm really grateful for my opportunity.

“It's massive - it's been a long journey. I've been at the club since I was 12 so to make my league debut against good opposition with a great bunch of lads is a fantastic achievement for myself.

“This moment was always the goal - obviously you're aware of the statistics of how it might not actually happen but I've worked myself hard and thankfully it's all panned out eventually.”
