UNDER 18s DEFEAT DONCASTER AT ST GEORGE'S PARK

9 December 2016

THE Burton Albion u18s defeated Doncaster 2-1 at St George's Park this afternoon thanks to goals from Dylan Garnett and Tristian Matthews.

It was a scrappy opening to the game with neither sides able to get the ball down and retain possession for long periods, but the first clear-cut chance fell to the first goal scorer Dylan Garnett who raced through on goal but the goalkeeper came out quickly to deny the Albion forward before he could get a shot off.

Dylan's goal came just before the half hour mark when he picked up possession some way out before driving at the Doncaster defence before cutting through the back four and firing past the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner.

The second half saw a different side to each team, as both academies looked to play it neatly on the floor and the visitors could have been level just after the hour mark but Luke Tandy put in a superb block to deny what looked like a certain goal scoring opportunity.

Albion's lead was doubled with four minutes to go when substitute Tristian Matthews got on the end of Dylan Garnett's cross to tap home from 6 yards.

Rovers didn't go down without a fight though, as a momentary lapse in concentration at the back allowed a close-range goal for Doncaster, but it finish 2-1 to the Brewers.
