VARNEY EXPECTS EXTRA SPICE AT PRIDE PARK

20 February 2017

BREWERS striker Luke Varney is looking forward to going back to Pride Park with the Albion tomorrow evening and expects their to be some extra spice.

Varney who endured a tough spell at Derby County after joining initially on loan in November 2008 from Charlton Athletic and then signing permanently for ÂŁ1 million in 2009 reflects back on his time there with disappointment rather than regret after suffering lots of niggling injuries and illness.

Varney said: “My time at Derby was a disappointment, I wanted to do well there as I am a Leicester lad and felt it was a good club to be at. But things change in football, I always look forward to going back there personally and getting the scalp. It’s a great stadium to play in and I still know a lot of people at the club.

"I scored against them earlier on this season for Ipswich, there’s a few ex Derby players in the squad the likes of Barker, Brayford, Naylor and obviously with the manager having managed there I am certain that will add extra spice to it too so it’s an occasion we will look forward to.”
