YOUNG BREWERS MAKE IT FIVE UNBEATEN

17 October 2016

Goals from Tristan Thompson-Matthews and Jack Hallahan secured a third victory in as many Youth Alliance games for Burton Albion’s under 18s.

A 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United made it five game unbeaten in all competitions.

The Brewers scored twice before Scunthorpe halved the deficit to deny Burton their first league clean sheet of the season.

The young Brewers have now scored 11 goals in three league games, something that has delighted manager Sam Rose, who says that his team are ‘playing with confidence’ and has urged the players to keep their focus as they aim to move up the Youth Alliance table.

“The boys are playing with confidence and it adds to the environment, the fact that we are working hard in midweek and we are doing work on how the opposition will set up lends to how we will set up on a Saturday,” Rose said.

“We want to win games, when we play on a Saturday; ultimately, we want to win because we want to be top of the Youth Alliance.

“Scunthorpe had won their last couple of games, so from our point-of-view it was good to end their good form and we must carry on picking up points and putting pressure on teams above us in the league.”

The Brewers now go on to face Shrewsbury in the Youth Alliance Cup, needing to better Mansfield Town’s result in order to progress from their group to the next round. Mansfield face Walsall, who Burton beat 1-0 in September.
