AKINS SAYS DARRAGH'S DEPARTURE COULD DRIVE THE TEAM "THAT LITTLE BIT MORE"

4 March 2015

After Lenihan’s recall this morning, Lucas Akins told burtonalbionfc.co.uk that it was unfortunate he was recalled but understands why it happened.

When asked if Lenihan would be a miss not only on the pitch but in the dressing room too, Akins told us

“Yes of course.

“Darragh was a great lad so it’s unfortunate that he was recalled.”

Akins has missed a fair chunk of the season after he was injured in his first game under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink he has only played in the same team as Darragh Lenihan for a small number of games but he was very complimentary of the young Irish midfielder.

“It was always a possibility and especially when he was playing so well.

“It was always potentially going to happen so now that it has happened, hopefully it Is an opportunity for another player to come in and step up to the plate.”

With a vacant hole in the middle of the park, Akins expressed how hungry the lads will be to fill that position.

“I’m sure the lads will be hungry to fill the gap and do well.” Akins told burtonalbionfc.co.uk.

It was clear to see that the Brewers fans were unhappy with the decision of Lenihan’s recall but Lucas Akins thinks it could be a good thing for the team, and hopefully a fresh pair of legs can come in and do the job.

“I suppose it can be a good thing for the team that somebody will want to come in now, they will be fresh and hopefully drive us on that little bit more.”
