BURTON ALBION 1-3 DERBY COUNTY

1 August 2015

A controlled display from Derby County was too much for the Brewers to handle in their final pre-season fixture.

The fans soon had something to shout about when El Khayati received the ball out wide, he cut inside on his right foot and bent a ball past Carson but the post came to the Ex-England internationals rescue.

GOAL: The first goal came shortly after. Naylor was dispossessed in midfield by Thorne who played a good ball through to Bent who's shot from the edge of the box beat Matthews at his far post.

GOAL: Another goal came Derby's way. Russell picked the ball up on the right after what looked like a quite clear hand ball from Baird but nothing was given. The ball was poked through to Weimann who pulled off a fancy flick which fooled the defence and Matthews who was left helpless.

Derby nearly added a third soon after as Ince was played in on goal but he was surrounded by Albion players. He poked the ball towards goal but Matthews saved well with his legs to keep it at 2-0.

Not a half to savour for any Burton Albion fan. Derby County were in total control from 0-45 minutes which was the difference at half time.

Half time: Burton Albion 0-2 Derby County

Just one change at half time for the Brewers. Timmy Thiele replaced Lucas Akins. Derby kept the same XI for the second half.

Former Ram Tom Naylor was replaced after 56 minutes by Callum Reilly, a like for like change.

Matthews made a third terrific save of the match. This time he denied Tom Ince. The forward ran through on goal and tried to chip the 'keeper but Matthews clawed it away.

GOAL: Thiele! Duffy whipped a free kick into the box, O'Connor sent a looping header towards the goal which hit the bar and fell kindly for Thiele who wasted no time in smashing the ball home for his first goal at the Pirelli Stadium. Game on!

Derby took the time to change their squad by making four changes at the same time.

Binnom-Williams soon showcased what he was all about on his home debut. He picked up the ball on the half way line before powering his way through the Derby half, in to the 18 yard box but his shot didn't match the quality of his run. Over the bar.

GOAL: Derby added a third against the run of play. Hendrick tried his luck from range which was going well wide but it fell nicely to Russell who looked as though he was in an offside position before turning past Matthews.

Dutch man for Dutch man as Maynard replaced El Khayati. Derby controlled the game from then onwards.

Brewers XI: Matthews, Edwards, Mousinho, O'Connor, McCrory, Akins, Weir, Naylor, El Khayati, Duffy, Beavon
Derby XI: Carson, Christie, Forsyth, Thorne, Shotton, Shackell, Russell, Baird, Bent, Ince, Weimann

Attendance: 5,302.

Ash's Man Of The Match: Remi Matthews.
