REILLY SAYS PRE-SEASON TESTS WILL REAP REWARDS

29 July 2015

MIDFIELDER Callum Reilly thinks Albion’s testing pre-season schedule will mean they will be well prepared for the League One campaign.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Premiership Leicester City, Reilly said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the lads to play against Premiership players. They are undoubtedly a talented team and it’s good for us to test ourselves against that calibre of players.

“When I signed and saw the teams we had coming here pre-season I was excited because they are big fixtures. It’s been a productive and very good pre-season that’s set us up well.

“We know we are going to be in a tough league this year and will have to be at our best in every game. We will need to press the opposition and try and win the ball as high up the field as we can. That’s what we are putting into practice at the moment in pre-season and it’s paying off.”

Reilly was delighted to get some game time under his belt against the Foxes.

He said: “I have had a few niggles in pre-season that have put me back a little bit so I haven’t been able to get the minutes I wanted. So against Leicester I was delighted to get 90 minutes and play in a tough game.

“There is good competition for places and that’s healthy. That pays off in the long run as you know when there’s illness and injury you have someone who can come and fill in the shoes of the player in front of them.”
