CLOUGH BRINGS IN FIRST SUMMER SIGNING

23 June 2016

DEFENDER Ben Turner is the first summer signing for Nigel Clough as the Brewers prepare for the Championship season.

The former Coventry City and Cardiff centre back has played in the Premier League and Championship and is now hoping to help Burton Albion in the club’s first season in the second tier.

He said: “I have had a year in the Premier League and I understand there’s a lot of lads coming through the leagues here and that it would be nice to get some others in who have played in the Championship before and know how it works. Hopefully my experience will help at the start of the season.”

The 28-year-old central defender is excited about being part of a landmark season for the Brewers.

He said: “I have seen the initial fixtures and it’s a nice start with a couple of derbies in the first month but there are so many good fixtures in the Championship these days as it’s a massive league. A lot of fixtures will be exciting for Burton Albion but that’s what the club’s been working towards and now it’s here.”

Nigel Clough is delighted to have signed Turner on a one-year deal.

He said: “He’s a good, experienced centre half and someone we have admired for a few years. We have got good character references back as well from a few people we respect. He has Premier League experience with Cardiff as well. He knows all about the Championship and will be a good asset.

“He wants to get playing again and competing again after a frustrating time with injuries. He played the last game of the Championship last season and he fits the bill for what we are looking for.”
