DARIUS CHARLES JOINS AFC WIMBLEDON

31 May 2016

DARIUS Charles has committed his future to AFC Wimbledon after his contract is set to expire with the Brewers.

The 28-year-old joined the Brewers on a one-year-deal back in June 2015 but he was still recovering from a broken leg sustained whilst playing for Stevenage.

Having failed to appear for Burton, he joined AFC Wimbledon on loan until the end of 2015/16 and yesterday gained promotion to Sky Bet League One via the play-offs. Charles started, and finished the play off final where AFC Wimbledon beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0.

Darius said: "Even though I've been injured I've been working hard with the likes of Nick Fenton and Jack Sharkey, and they've helped me get back to full fitness.

"(Coming into a side injured) makes a massive difference. I came into the team injured and it's a little bit more difficult injured. The Burton boys were brilliant and made me feel like of their own right from the off. There's nothing better than going to work every day and going into the trenches with them.”

The defender would also like to send a message to the fans.

"I would like to thank them for their patience with me.

"I want to, not apologise, but I am sorry I couldn't do what the club brought me to do.

"I do wish them all the best for the future because they're a brilliant bunch of fans.”
