HASSELBAINK: A SATISFYING WIN

22 November 2014

Boss pleased after Luton win

Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink praised the determination of his side as they ended Luton Town’s 11-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

The top-of-the-table Hatters pressed for periods of the game, but Phil Edwards’ second goal in as many games was the difference between the sides. After the game, Hasselbaink was pleased with the way the team stuck together to earn the win.

“It’s a very satisfying win. It was hard work and Luton made it difficult for us. The boys stuck with it and worked very hard and there wasn’t a lot between the two teams. They threw everyone forward at the end but we stuck with it and I’m very pleased.

“It’s very important that we stick with it and we stayed organised. With the ball we moved quite well and we were dangerous as well at times. It’s one of those things and Luton made it difficult, and that’s why they were top of the league.

“We had to defend well towards the end and stay well as a unit. That was very important.”

“I think the organisation and willingness was really good. If you stick with that as a team you’ll be fine,” said Hasselbaink.

Albion go above the Hatters into second in League Two, and Hasselbaink has urged the players to keep their feet on the ground and to focus on the games ahead.

“It gives us confidence for the next game, but we won’t get six points, just the three and that’s the same for any game. All games are important and we need to be up for them, not just Luton because they’re top. There’s only ever three points at stake,” said Hasselbaink.

The manager also spoke of the atmosphere around the Pirelli Stadium, and hopes for more of the same from Albion fans in the future.

“It was nice to see. There was a good feeling and a lot of noise around the ground and hopefully there’s more to come."
