HASSELBAINK HAS SHREWSBURY SELECTION HEADACHES

28 August 2015

AFTER making eight changes for the midweek cup tie against Middlesbrough Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admits that he has selection headaches ahead of the League One trip to Shrewsbury.

The manager was not happy with the performance against Peterborough, despite the 2-1 victory but was "proud" of his players for the spirited performance against Championship Middlesbrough.

He admits that he now has some selection headaches ahead of the League One encounter with Shrewsbury tomorrow.

He said: "On Tuesday they have made themselves proud and done themselves justice. So yes I have some headaches, but they are good headaches."

As well as having to chose between two in form keepers in Jon McLaughlin and Remi Matthews, Tuesday's man of the match Matty Palmer is also pushing for a starting slot.

Hasselbaink says: "There are more players that put in good shifts. But Palmer did well and had a positive game and he is still a young lad who is coming out of the academy and putting that kind of performance down, it was pleasing for me.

"Anthony O'Connor did very well along with Binnom-Williams. It is good, I like that."

New signing Tom Flanagan will also be in contention.

Hasselbaink says: "We knew Tom already and we were looking at loaning him but we already have four loans and we didn't want to take up our fifth loan.

"We were looking at getting a permanent centre half in as Darius Charles isn't ready yet. Flanagan has the experience in League One. He has the size and the pace which we need so I am looking for him to challenge the other players and make it difficult for them."
