Brewers boss reflects on Exeter point
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink reflected on two dropped points for his Burton Albion side as a goal inside the last ten minutes for the second week running deprived his side of a more profitable result.Former Albion triallist Christian Ribeiro headed home on 86 minutes to cancel out Jacob Blyth’s fifth goal of the season on the hour mark and the manager felt Albion should have claimed maximum points, having a second half shout for a penalty turned down and substitute Adam McGurk denied by a crucial deflection moments after coming on.
“It’s very frustrating because the boys deserved more. It’s just one of those things isn’t it?” Jimmy said after the game, “ We cant do anything about it. We should have won here and we should have had two goals but it was meant to be[a draw]”.
The crucial moment came when McGurk showed good skill to control a free kick and then get on the end of the eventual cross but the Irishman was unable to add to his tally for the campaign.
“It got blocked unluckily for Adam.” Jimmy continued, “ He came in and gave us something different. The chance started with him taking the ball on his chest, playing it wide and little Alex crossing it really well and its just unfortunate that the ball didn’t go in the net. I think if we score 2-0 then we win the game.”
The game showed two good sides both trying to play good passing football, something that the new Brewers boss has tried to add to the side since taking over and it was very much in evidence with plenty of one touch passing and moving causing Exeter problems.
“We still have some work to do but we are going in the right direction. The boys are daring to play and that is important.” Said a pleased Hasselbaink.
The manager also handed full debuts to both Bryn Morris and deadline day signing Kelvin Maynard and both showed plenty of promise ahead of a busy period of the season.
“They both did really well.” Concluded the manager, “Bryn is a young boy, the pace at the end was a little too much for him and he was getting tired. Kelvin, obviously needs to get a little bit fitter but he did well.”
