HASSELBAINK: "THEY LOOKED FRESHER"

2 March 2015

“What do you do? Do you change certain people?"

A first home defeat under the management of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink left everyone frustrated at the Pirelli Stadium as Newport County AFC returned home to South Wales with all three points courtesy of Miles Storey's second half strike on a day when the Brewers failed to bounce from their midweek setback at Accrington Stanley with any real conviction.

Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was left frustrated with the way his side lost, especially with having three games in a week.

“It’s frustrating in the way that it was always going to be a difficult game for us, our third game in a week.

“What do you do? Do you change certain people?

“We lost on Tuesday…Do you want to give them confidence?”

The Brewers faced Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday 21st February, followed by Accrington Stanley last Tuesday and to round the week off, Albion’s third game in the same week was the defeat to Newport County AFC.

Hasselbaink said Newport looked fresher because they had the whole week to prepare. Had Adam McGurk's curling first half effort nestled in the back of the net rather than bounce back out off the inside of the post then Albion could have been contemplating stretching their lead at the top of Skybet League 2.

“To be honest it was always going to be a hard game because Newport had the whole week to prepare and they looked fresher.” Hasselbaink told burtonalbionfc.co.uk

“Whatever you say, they looked fresher.

“You can say that if the ball that hit the post goes in, then you have time for a breather and the game opens up for you to control it a little bit more.

“It wasn’t meant to be and it is only disappointing the way the goal went in.

“It’s a pity but we have to move on.”
