A battling 1-1 draw in dreadful conditions maintained Albion's lead at the top although the Brewers now only lead by three.
It was a game settled by two own goals in the first half as Tom Naylor was adjudged to have diverted the ball into his own net from a Stevenage corner and defender Bira Dembele returning the favour on the stroke of half time watching on as the ball bounced off him and into the net.
“I don’t think they were in the game second half.” Hasselbaink said. “It was all about us second half, we were a little bit unlucky with our chances.
“We hit the post and we had a disallowed goal that was a goal and not offside but it is one of those things.
“Stevenage came here with a game plan.
“First half they were very good.
“They really made us suffer and sometimes you have to suffer to appreciate little bits and pieces.”
A disjointed first half performance where Stevenage looked much the better side was put to the back of Burton minds as they dominated the second period but despite mounting pressure on the Stevenage goal, in worsening conditions, both sides had to settle for a very hard earned point.
“I think second half we deserved more out of the game than just a point.
“They scored from an own goal, it was not a Lisbie goal.
“We then scored but I have no idea who scored but again from a set piece.
“If you look at the second half, it was all us.
“We had a few chances and we looked the team score but it wasn’t meant to be and a point isn’t bad and we move on ready for the next games.”
