Burton sign Howe

13 July 2013

Burton Albion have completed the signing of Rene Howe on a two year deal.

The highly-rated striker arrives at the Pirelli Stadium after leaving Torquay in the summer having scored 30 goals in 89 appearances during two seasons at Plainmoor.

The 26-year-old was the Gulls’ leading scorer during the 2012/13 campaign, hitting the back of the net on 16 occasions; including a spell of six goals in six consecutive matches.

Howe began his career with hometown club Bedford Town before a prolific spell at Kettering led to Peterborough United acquiring his services.

Howe spent four years at London Road, taking in numerous loan spells, before a successful move to Devon in July 2011.

Howe commented: ‘I had options but I received a call from the Manager, we had a long chat and he said all the right things; I can’t wait to get started.

‘I thought Burton were unlucky not to go up last season but the important thing is that we now go again and from my perspective I’m  concentrating on getting on the pitch and scoring goals for Burton Albion.’

Burton Albion Manager Gary Rowett added: ‘We’ve worked hard to persuade Rene that this is the place to be in order to progress and further his career because he’s a player I certainly believe can play at a higher level.

‘It’s good to have acquired a target man and a player of Rene’s stature and experience. He scored goals in a Torquay side that struggled for long periods last season and that’s testament to his character. I believe he’s going to be a really valuable signing for us.’
