JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK | "I LOVE THEM TO BITS"

25 February 2015

Burton Albion missed out on a glorious opportunity to steal a march on their promotion rivals as they slipped to a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley.

The home side managed just the one effort on target but it proved enough as Josh Windass' first senior goal for Stanley secured all three points for John Coleman's side.

“It was disappointing.” Hasselbaink told us.

“The first half we didn’t play how we can play, and they played a totally different formation so we had to adjust, we did.

“Accrington scored out of the blue which doesn’t normally happen with us. The goal put us on the back foot.”

The Brewers didn’t register a shot on target and only registered 11 shots in the match. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink told burtonalbionfc.co.uk that in the second half, his side took the game to the opposition.

“I thought second half we came out and we took the game to them.

“We had a few good chances but our final pass and final decision was not right.”

The 13 game unbeaten run under the Dutch boss couldn’t stretch to 14 but Hasselbaink knew that Accrington Stanley was always going to be a difficult game.

“We have been on a great run and there was always going to be a game where it would be difficult and we knew that today was going to be difficult, and it was.”

Despite slipping to just their second defeat under Hasselbaink, he insists that he is very proud of his players, not just how they performed against Accrington but how they have performed since he came in.

“It could have been a draw but it wasn’t meant to be today and as I said to them, I am very proud of the boys and very proud of how they have performed for the past however many games I have been here.

“I love them to bits. They show a lot of courage and they keep on going until the final minute and I can’t fault them.

“They have been magnificent, even today in the second half and Saturday is just another match and we keep on fighting.”
