JIMMY: MANSFIELD WAS A GOOD TEST

11 January 2015

Manager pleased with Mansfield win

Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink expressed a mixture of satisfaction and relief after watching his promotion chasing side overcome a difficult test against Mansfield Town at the Pirelli Stadium.

"It was a very difficult one." he said, reflecting on a performance that saw Albion totally in command at the break, two goals to the good but having to rely on a strong defensive performance in the second half as Mansfield used the windy conditions to their advantage after the break.  "We were cruising in the first half doing what we needed to do only we didnt start as well as we could because they had a chance, a good chance and luckily they didnt take it but then afterwards it was all us. We hit the post, we asked the keeper questions and we scored two good goals. Then second half we didnt come out as we can and I must give Mansfield credit and they put us under a lot of pressure."

Reggie Lambe squandered that early chance for the Stags barely thirty seconds into the game but the winger became the first man to breach the Burton backline at the Pirelli Stadium under Hasselbaink's tenure to set up a tense finish after Matty Palmer and Kelvin Maynard had both struck their debut Football League goals.

The manager paid tribute to Adam Murray's side for their second half performance admitting they had made life difficult for his men.

"They put a lot of balls into the box and a lot of play behind our line. The conditions were difficult and Mansfield deserved everything that they threw at us."

"Mansfield gave us a really good test. They brought five new players in and changed a few things and made a fist out of it and we needed to defend really well at times."

The full post match interview with Jimmy will be available on Brewers Player on Monday.
